Tim Tszyu might have continued his undefeated streak but Takeshi Inoue proved to be a tougher customer than most thought.

Tszyu, who moved to 20-0-0 after a unanimous decision win, dominated the fight and possibly didn’t lose a round throughout but couldn’t finish the Japan fighter, who exhibited incredible toughness amid a brutal body assault that lasted 36 long minutes.

The undefeated Sydney fighter opened the Japan star up with a multitude of combinations early but his propensity to look for one big shot allowed Inoue to land more as the contest wore on after a conservative start to the fight for the Japanese boxer.

Tszyu took it 120-107, 119-108, 120-107 on the scorecards bringing a streak of five straight finishes to an end.

He showed his trademark patience, was composed through the 12 rounds and mixed up his attack well with a bevy of uppercuts, straight rights around the guard and liver shots.

Inoue went down in the 12th but the knockdown was mainly due to losing his footing. After the fight, Tszyu was full of praise for Inoue and was surprised by how much damage he took.

“The guy’s built like a brick wall. F—ing hit him with anything and he doesn’t go down.

“I don’t think any heavyweights can drop him. Hands up to him … I’m sure he’s going to be sore tomorrow.

“Hats off to him, he’s a warrior. I heard him squeal, his face is battered and look at his body. He’s so tough.

Tszyu said he came out of the clash unscathed and felt confident throughout.

“I didn’t feel s–t, I was just having a good time.

“Honestly, I think that was the best thing that could’ve happened, getting a good 12 rounds in before I hit the big-time.

“I’ll be back in the gym. I’ve got to be more prepared than that because I’ve got to take these guys out. The grind continues.”

Tszyu also had a message for WBO world champion Brian Castano.

“You boys finish your little honeymoons and get back in the gym and start training. I’m coming for all of you. Every single one of you.”
